Adult Basic Education (ABE) and
General Education Development (GED)

Adult basic education (ABE) and general educational development (GED) classes are designed for students over 16 who want to increase their reading, writing and math skills to a level that will help them them pass the GED test, earn credits toward a high school diploma or prepare for college classes (students whose high school class has not yet graduated need to be released from the K-12 school system in which they are, or should be, registered). These noncredit classes are offered on the Wenatchee and Omak campuses, as well as in many community locations throughout the college district. Day and evening classes are available.

Students receive instruction to increase their basic reading, writing and computational skills. For those wishing to prepare for college or vocational programs, the classes will help students get the education and skills needed to go to the next level.

For more information about the classes nearest you, call the WVC Adult Basic Skills office at 509.682.6790.

To sign up for a class:

In Wenatchee:

  • Arrange for an appointment to take the CASAS Placement exam for ABE classes at the Wenatchee campus (509.682.6790 or 509.682.6796).
  • After taking the exam, you will receiveyour scores for placement into ABE reading, writing and math classes.
  • Register at the Wenatchee campus.
  • Pay $25 tuition.
  • Go to class.

For off-campus locations:

  • Go to the class in your area (If you do not know when or where the class meets, call the WVC Adult Basic Skills office at 509.682.6790 to get the information.)
  • Register and test for placement in class.
  • Pay $25 tuition.
  • Go to class.

Tuition for WVC Adult Basic Skills classes is $25 per student per quarter.

The only important change is that an individual only needs to be 16 years of age to be in our program. If their class has not yet graduated, they will also need to be released from the K-12 school system in which they are, or should be, registered.
