GED TESTING INFORMATION

GED BW Logo

Please read this information carefully.

IMPORTANT: Testing is by appointment only. If you are a first-time tester, you must sign up for testing in person at the college. You must sign up for testing 24 hours in advance. No exceptions!

The GED test will be changing in January 2012. We will not be able to combine scores from the current test with the new test. Examinees who have not finished all five tests and achieved a passing score on their GED by December 31, 2011 will need to start all over with the new tests in 2012. For more information visit the website www.GEDtest.org.

FIVE STEPS TO TAKE THE GED

  1. Request a student ID number at the Registration counter on the first floor of Wenatchi Hall. Tell them you will be taking the GED.
  2. Pay the $75 test fee at the Cashier counter, located next to Registration in Wenatchi Hall.
  3. Present your receipt, current photo ID and, if you are under the age of 19, your release form to the Educational Planning and Testing Center in Wenatchi Hall (past the Cashier). We must see photo ID before you can sign up for testing.

Acceptable forms of ID include current drivers licenses, valid passports, military IDs, or other forms of government-issued (national or foreign) identification that show name, address, date of birth, signature and photograph.

  4. Fill out the GED application and demographics form at the Educational Planning and Testing Center.
  5. Sign up for a test date. All of the above steps must be completed before you can make an appointment for the test. Click here for the GED test Schedule.

AGE REQUIREMENTS Minimum age for taking the GED is 16. If you are under 19 years old, you must submit a release form (Request for Approval to Test for General Educational Development (GED) Diploma) signed by an official at the last high school you attended or from your local school district office.

DAY OF THE TEST Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early. Testing will start at times listed. Latecomers will not be admitted. You must show current photo ID at check-in for each test or you will not be permitted to test. Children may not accompany you to tests.

SCORING You must have a minimum battery average score of 450 and a minimum score of 410 on each of the five sections to pass the GED. Writing test results take approximately two weeks to process; other sections are scored within 5 business days. You will receive results by mail. Scores are confidential and will not be released over the phone or to anyone else without your written permission.

RETESTING If needed, you can retake each section of the test two times after the initial test during one calendar year. Retests are $15 for each test. You must wait one month before retesting.

DIPLOMA A GED diploma will be mailed to you approximately three weeks after you have successfully passed the test.

SPECIAL TESTING ACCOMMODATIONS For information about special testing accommodations for physical or learning disabilities, contact the Special Populations Coordinator at 509.682.6854.

SPANISH The GED is offered in Spanish.

GED TEST PREPARATION CLASSES Prepare for the GED test by taking practice tests and learning smart test-taking techniques. These classes are highly recommended because they increase the likelihood of success on the test. You must take the CASAS test to determine skill level before enrolling in GED prep classes. CASAS test schedules are available at the Testing Center.
