Sompheng first began teaching at Wenatchee High School in 1997, where she taught business computer courses, coordinated the work experience program and advised the FBLA club. She was later hired by the Cascade Consortium as the technology integration coordinator and worked on a project that focused on the sharing of resources through distance learning through video conferencing over a fiber optic network. At the same time, she was lead coordinator of a national grant for the Lake Chelan and Manson school districts. The Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology grant involved enabling existing educators to mentor pre-service teachers in technology use in the classroom. She also worked as an adjunct instructor with WVC at their Chelan branch.

In the fall of 2003, she returned to the classroom at Eastmont Junior High, teaching word processing full time. That summer, she was offered a position at Manson High School as a career and technical education teacher. She also advised the FBLA club and the yearbook.

In the fall of 2012, she began teaching in the WVC Business Computer Technology program.
