Wenatchee Valley College’s accrediting agency, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) visited WVC in April to review the college’s self-evaluation report, meet with employees and students, and to develop a summary report that identifies draft commendations and recommendations to guide WVC’s improvement efforts.

The college is developing an action plan to address NWCCU’s draft recommendations, with work already underway at both campuses to develop an internal communications plan and a decision-making matrix.

“NWCCU’s report provides clear directives that will guide our work moving forward to make WVC the higher education institution of choice for North Central Washington. Our college is thankful for the evaluation team’s recommendations and the opportunity to reflect on our strengths and opportunities for growth and improvement,” President Faimous Harrison shared. “We fully anticipate that WVC will remain an accredited institution and appreciate our faculty, staff, and student’s engagement throughout this process.”

In July, WVC President Harrison will share progress the college has made since April with the commission. This meeting will confirm WVC’s accreditation status and define the level of recommendations; the accreditation process provides four years to address recommendations. In August, NWCCU will issue their final report outlining the actions WVC must take to address their recommendations.

Over the past six months, WVC staff and faculty prepared a self-evaluation report that was provided to NWCCU as part of the accreditation process prior to the commission’s visit in April. The report is a self-reflection on the college’s strengths and identifies areas for improvement.

“This year’s accreditation process has demonstrated our faculty and staff’s commitment to our students, to each other, and to strengthening the communities we serve through education. We have important work to do to make Wenatchee Valley College live up to its full potential, and I look forward to sharing updates with our community on the progress we are making to enrich the lives of our students, and invest in our faculty, staff, and North Central Washington,” President Harrison said.
