WVC Alumni Spotlight: Cathy Rixey '88
Cathy Rixey attended Wenatchee Valley College in 1988 and believes that a good education
creates better opportunities, empowers people to think critically, and builds a stronger
community for all. “Beyond academics, education fosters empathy and understanding
by exposing people to diverse perspectives and cultures,” she said.
Cathy is now on the WVC Foundation board, and is inspired to serve because she enjoys being part of an organization that focuses on creating more opportunities in learning and growth within our community.
“My favorite memory as a WVC Foundation board member is hearing how scholarships have made a difference in student lives and how much they have grown and learned from their educational experience at WVC as a result of those scholarships,” Cathy said.
When Cathy isn’t serving on the WVC Foundation board, she enjoys spending time with her two grandchildren, skiing, travelling, yoga, watching TV, and walking with her friends.
“Wenatchee Valley College matters to me because of the value and convenience it brought to not only me as an alumni, but to our community as a whole,” she said. “As a local institution, WVC provided me with access to local quality education without financial strain or disruption of relocating. It allowed me to stay rooted in my community and I think it offers that same advantage to all students.”
