Athletic Booster Club drive
WVC Athletic Booster Club membership drive runs until May 9
The Wenatchee Valley College Athletic Booster Club’s first organized membership drive, with the goal of increasing membership to 100 members for the 2012-13 academic year, began earlier this month. Volunteers are currently in the community encouraging membership of individuals and businesses to join in support of WVC’s student-athletes and athletic programs.
WVC Athletic Booster Club members volunteer at athletic events, coordinate events like the annual athletic golf tournament, and help raise funds for athletic team travel, equipment needs, facility upgrades and student-athlete scholarships, which are tied to tuition. As tuition increases, athletic scholarship awards must also increase.
“It is well known that education opens doors to opportunities and provides a pathway to the future,” said WVC Athletic Director Greg Franz. “Here at WVC, we are proud to provide this opportunity to the young people who choose to become WVC Knights and participate in athletics while pursuing their educational goals. In many cases, being a student-athlete and receiving an athletic scholarship opens the door to a brighter future.”
“Supporting Knight Athletics helps sustain WVC’s future as well as the athletes themselves,” said WVC President Dr. Jim Richardson. “Sports and our athletes significantly enhance the vitality of college life at WVC for all students, creating a stronger and more vibrant learning environment.”
WVC Athletic Booster Club membership levels start at $50 and increase to $1,000, with benefits such as Knights athletic gear, name recognition on the website or in Smith Gym, season passes to one or more sports, and entry of a foursome into the annual golf tournament. The public phase of the membership drive ends May 9; however, individuals and businesses may sign up throughout the year. The club’s financial goal is to raise $40,000 by the end of the year.
