Derek Sheffield Reading
Derek Sheffield will read from his new book of poetry, Through the Second Skin, at Wenatchee Valley College on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m. in The Grove Recital Hall, Music and Art Center, on the Wenatchee campus. A book signing will follow the poetry reading.
Through the Second Skin was released by Orchises Press this month and is Sheffield's first book of poems. His poems have appeared widely in literary magazines and journals such as Poetry, The Georgia Review, Orion, Ecotone, The Southern Review, the Alaska Quarterly Review and Terrain.org.
Sheffield was awarded North American Review's James Hearst Poetry Prize, judged by Li-Young Lee, the inaugural Sparrow Prize in Poetry, and the Hazel Lipa Environmental Chapbook Award. In addition, he was runner-up for the 2012 Emily Dickinson First Book Award and a finalist for the Walt Whitman Award.
He teaches composition, poetry and fiction courses at Wenatchee Valley College.
