Carli Schiffner named WVC Vice President of Instruction

Dr. Carli Schiffner has been named the new vice president of instruction at Wenatchee Valley College. She will begin her employment on June 24 after fulfilling her current contract.

In her new position, she will oversee instruction, information technology and library services at the college, and serve as chief administrator of the Omak campus.

Schiffner is currently the interim president at State University of New York (SUNY) Canton. Prior to her interim presidency, she was the provost at SUNY Canton for one year, the dean of arts and sciences at Yakima Valley Community College for four years, and chief of staff at SUNY Canton for two years.

Schiffner also has extensive teaching experience; she has taught social science courses at Lewis-Clark State College and SUNY Canton.

"My husband and I are ecstatic about returning to Washington. This is such an ideal situation for us—a fabulous position at WVC and close proximity to our loved ones," Schiffner said.

She earned her doctorate in American history, with concentrations in Asian and women's history, from Washington State University; her master's in cultural and intellectual history from Drew University in New Jersey; and her bachelor's degree in history and political science from Gonzaga University.

Dr. Schiffner's diverse background and experience will greatly benefit the college," said WVC President Jim Richardson, "She's open to new ideas, energetic, and has experience building community and industry relationships."

Schiffner replaces Dr. Walt Tribley, former vice president of instruction. Tribley left WVC in November after accepting the position of president at Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, Calif.
