WVC Foundation approves funding to support WVC for 2013-14

The Wenatchee Valley College Foundation Board of Directors unanimously approved $400,997 in unrestricted funds and endowments in support of WVC for 2013-2014. Funding will benefit students, programs, faculty and staff on both the Wenatchee and Omak campuses.

"The WVC Foundation is pleased to be able to provide this funding to WVC," said Ron Lodge, WVC Foundation President. "Our board of directors and foundation staff work with the college administration to identify the highest priority needs on campus, and then with alumni, friends of the college, foundations, and corporations to identify how to meet those needs."

Approved funding includes over $140,500 in scholarships, about $68,000 for the WVC Nursing program, $36,000 in faculty and staff development funds, and $162,000 in unrestricted funds to support a new machinist program, veteran work-study scholarships, emergency financial support for students, community outreach and campus needs.

The following is a break down of the funding provided by the Foundation to the college:

Unrestricted Funding ($162,000)

• Machinist Program - $87,000, which includes a $40,000 National Alcoa Foundation grant, to purchase equipment for a machinist program that is currently in development with a proposed fall-quarter 2014 start date
• Staff Development Fund - $10,000 for continuing education and training
• Veteran Work-Study Scholarships - $20,000
• Expanding Your Horizons - $5,000 (A one-day program that exposes young women to careers that focus on science, technology, engineering and math.)
• Presidential Support - $4,000 to support community outreach and other needs not funded through state support
• Unrestricted Gift to the College - $25,000 for campus needs that are not funded through state support
• Intervention Fund - $10,000 to support students experiencing financial emergencies
• Exempt Staff Annual Recognition Award - $1,000 annual award in recognition of excellence

Endowment Funding ($238,997)

• Allied Health/Science Faculty Development Fund - $11,000 for continuing education, conferences and training
• Faculty Development Fund - $15,000 for continuing education, conferences and training
• Student Body President Stipend - $3,000
• Linda Schultz Herzog Faculty Award - $1,500 annual award in recognition of excellence in teaching
• Scholarship Funding - $140,587
• Nurses for Tomorrow Campaign funds - $67,910 to fund nursing program equipment, speakers and scholarships

"Unrestricted gifts are given to help where we determine the need is the greatest," said Stacey Lockhart, WVC Foundation Executive Director. "They allow us the flexibility to be responsive and creative. These gifts allow us to ensure that the faculty and staff are well trained, qualified and able to provide the highest level of service to our students both in and out of the classroom."

The WVC Foundation works with many donors who have a passion for a particular program or who have memories of when they attended college. The Foundation also works with WVC alumni, faculty and staff, friends of the college, and family members who wish to honor loved ones, and to establish annual and permanent scholarships and endowments that meet the donors' philanthropic intent.

"It's because of financial support from hundreds of alumni, faculty and staff, friends, and industry partners that we are able to be in a position to support the college at this level," Lodge said.
