Wenatchee Valley College employees recognized

WVC faculty and staff who retired this academic year were honored at a ceremony June 10. Outstanding faculty and staff members at Wenatchee Valley College were recognized by colleagues and the WVC Foundation at an awards ceremony on June 10.

Nelson Martin of East Wenatchee, a business and agriculture faculty member, received the Linda Schultz Herzog Faculty Member of the Year Award, which includes a $1,500 honorarium funded by the WVC Foundation.

Jaima Kuhlmann of Wenatchee and Bridget Grove of Leavenworth received the WVC Exempt Staff Award. Kuhlmann and Grove, both educational planners, will each receive $500 honorariums funded by the WVC Foundation.

Chano Rodriguez of Waterville, secretary senior for student programs, received the WVC Alcoa Classified Staff Award and a $1,000 honorarium funded by Alcoa.

The Anna Pieratt Spirit of Wenatchee Valley College Award was presented to athletic director and physical education faculty member Greg Franz of Wenatchee. This award honors an individual or group who has demonstrated the spirit exemplified by Anna Pieratt when she served as executive assistant to the president.

English faculty Derek Sheffield of Leavenworth is the recipient of the Alcoa Excellence in Teaching Award. Each year, faculty members are invited to submit proposals that will support an instructor in the development of a project that significantly increases learning effectiveness. A $1,500 award funded by Alcoa is given to a faculty member or team. Sheffield coordinates a visiting writers project, in which writers visit campus to give public readings and work with creative writing students. Sheffield also received a 15-year service award.

Ten-year service awards were presented to Rafe Carroll of Wenatchee, scientific instruction technician; Erin Davidson of East Wenatchee, program developer in WVC Continuing Education; Sheila Dresker of Wenatchee, assistant to the vice president of student development and athletics coordinator; Cheryl Fritz of Wenatchee, assistant director of financial aid; Juel Iwaasa of East Wenatchee, music faculty member; Janet Morris of Wenatchee, program manager for facilities and operations; Dave Pritchard of Wenatchee, custodian; Jean Rodgers of Okanogan, business faculty member at the Omak campus; and Roman Sandoval of Wenatchee, instructional and class support technician in the fitness center.

Fifteen-year service awards were presented to Linda Beebe of Wenatchee, fiscal technician in the bookstore; Carla Boyd of Wenatchee, special populations coordinator; Dr. Ralph Dawes of Wenatchee, earth sciences faculty member; Olivia Drakes of Wenatchee, library and archives paraprofessional; Zack Jacobson of Leavenworth, industrial technology faculty; Jan Kaiser of Wenatchee, medical assistant faculty; Heather Maddy of Wenatchee, assistant to the vice president of administrative services; Bruce Maxwell of Wenatchee, registrar; Fran Moser of Entiat, financial aid program specialist; Shelly Pflugrath of Wenatchee, psychology faculty member and softball coach; Mary Rabchuck of Okanogan, information technology specialist at Omak; Sue Root of Omak, allied health program coordinator at the Omak campus; Marsha Smith of East Wenatchee, bookstore retail clerk; Steve Stefanides of Wenatchee, biology and chemistry faculty; and Mary Watson of Chelan, dean of workforce education.

Twenty-year service awards were presented to Michael Choman of East Wenatchee, business and accounting faculty member; Tim Marker of Wenatchee, human resources consultant; Livia Millard of Omak, multicultural affairs coordinator and academic adviser at Omak; Roger Montanez of Omak, custodian at the Omak campus; and Gary Vandegrift of Malaga, director of auxiliary services.

Twenty-five year service awards were presented to Dr. Stephen Berard of Wenatchee, world languages faculty; Carie Fisk of Wenatchee, payroll manager; Rob Fitch of Wenatchee, biology faculty; Jack Johnson of Peshastin and Gerald Tiffany of East Wenatchee, English faculty; and Shelly Zimmerman of Wenatchee, radiologic technology faculty. Trees will be planted on the Wenatchee campus in honor of those who received the twenty-five year service awards.

David Lindeblad of Omak, history and political science faculty member, and Cathern Williams of Wenatchee, office assistant in central services, received 35-year service awards.

Jim Cannon of Entiat, economics and history faculty member, received a 45-year service award.
