Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at WVC Jan. 21

The Wenatchee Valley College Student Senate invites the community to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. at a celebration event on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Van Tassell Student Center on the Wenatchee campus. Dr. Darryl Brice, an instructor at Highline Community College, will be the keynote speaker for this event.

The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with a panel of WVC faculty and community members engaging in a cross-cultural dialogue that addresses the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and issues of social justice in our local community.

From 12 to 3 p.m., WVC students, faculty and staff, and the community are invited to view the documentary "Race—The Power of an Illusion." The film explores race in society, science and history.

Dr. Brice will give a keynote address at 3 p.m. on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Brice is an instructor of sociology, diversity and globalism at Highline Community College, where he has taught since 2003. He received a bachelor of science in political science and justice studies from Frostburg State University, and his master's and PhD in sociology from Loyola University Chicago.

All events are free and open to the public. The celebration is sponsored by the Associated Students of WVC.
