Family and friends of Stacy White have established the Stacy White Memorial Scholarship with the Wenatchee Valley College Foundation to support second-year students enrolled in the WVC Automotive Technology program. Scholarship recipients could receive a minimum of $1,000.
Stacy White was born April 13, 1969, in Albany, Ore. He moved to Washington when he was three and grew up in Brewster. In his youth, he loved riding motorcycles and tinkering on pick-up trucks with friends and family in his uncle's shop. He later found an after-school job in a local auto garage. Stacy lived his adult years in East Wenatchee and worked as a pipe welder and fitter for 22 years as a member of Local 32 in Wenatchee.
Stacy was passionate about spending time with his family and many friends; his shop was the usual gathering place. Stacy loved sharing his knowledge with family and friends. They would often weld racecar frames, rebuild motors, or make adjustments so the car would hold to the track better. Their creations could be seen at the Wenatchee Super Oval, where Stacy was often found in the pits. His other hobbies were hunting, fishing and camping. He always looked forward to these adventures with family and friends.
Bob Greiner, program director of WVC Automotive Technology and a friend of Stacy's, said, "Stacy loved to fabricate things; if there was something needed at the race track, Stacy would say, let's build it! There were times that I would stop by his house and he'd have three racecars and a bunch of guys out in the garage. He was always helping others and would give anyone the shirt off of his back."
Though Stacy's life ended suddenly on September 30, 2013, Stacy's brother Darryl White is pleased that his life and impact on others with a similar passion will live on through the memorial scholarship. "Stacy would have been pleased to know that WVC students will benefit from this scholarship fund."
Contributions to the Stacy White Memorial Scholarship may be sent to the WVC Foundation, 1300 Fifth Street, Wenatchee, WA 98001. Gifts may also be made online at www.wvc.edu/foundation. For more information contact the WVC Foundation at 509.682.6415.
