The annual Fountain Fishing Derby and International Day festival return to Wenatchee
Valley College on Thursday, May 21, at the Wenatchee campus. The fishing derby is
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The International Day celebration is 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Both events
are open to the public.
The International Day celebration includes folkloric dancers, mariachi music, and
music by Michael Carlos and Darnell Scott near the fountain area. Presentations will
take place in Van Tassell Center and will include information about Afghanistan, Africa
and Cuba; yoga from India; origami and Japanese calligraphy; and a magic show.
The fishing derby includes hundreds of triploid rainbow trout, with a few five-pound
"lunkers" for some extra fun. WVC student leaders will be available to clean and grill
fish on location.
The cost for the fishing derby is $5 for a rod and the first fish, $1 for each additional
fish, with a limit of three fish per angler. WVC students and their families fish
for free.
Food will be available for purchase, and children's games and activities will be provided.
