WVC offers Outdoor Recreation Management program

For those who love to work and play in the outdoors, Wenatchee Valley College will begin offering an Outdoor Recreation Management degree this fall.

Outdoor Recreation Management is designed around North Central Washington's natural environment, which provides an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities that promote physically fit and active lifestyles. Outdoor recreation is a growing field of employment and an important part of the regional economy.

The program curriculum blends course work in seasonal outdoor recreational activities, physical education, health and fitness, natural resources and business management. The program will prepare students for entry- to mid-level career paths in outdoor guiding, camp programming (including trip planning and administration), state and federal parks, outdoor/environmental education, and management positions in recreation-related companies.

Students who complete the 95-credit program will receive an associate in applied science-transfer (AAS-T) degree. According to the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, the AAS-T is built upon technical courses required for job preparation but also includes a college-level general education component. The AAS-T is designed for the dual purpose of immediate employment and as preparation for the junior year in a bachelor's degree, commonly described as the bachelor of applied science (BAS), at four-year colleges and universities that accept AAS-T degrees.

In addition to outdoor recreation management, WVC is also offering a new machinist training program in the fall. The machining program is designed to meet the needs of those entering into or currently working in the machining industry.
