First annual WVC Comedy Improv Festival starts May 26

The Wenatchee Valley College Theater Arts Department, in collaboration with Eastmont High School Drama Club, presents the first annual Comedy Improv Festival from May 26-28 at the campus theater in Wells Hall. The festival features a full weekend of improv and original sketch comedy.

Admission is free the first night, May 26. On May 27 and 28, tickets are $3 per show, $5 for a day pass and $8 for a weekend pass. Tickets are available at the door the day of the show.

The festival begins on Thursday, May 26, at 6 p.m. with a reception, followed by a student showcase at 7 p.m. and an open improv at 8 p.m. The audience is welcome to join in the open improv.

On Friday, May 27, Comedy Knights Live will perform short-form improv games at 7 p.m., Wildcat Comedy will perform original sketch comedy and short-form improv games at 8 p.m., with the Comedy Knights returning at 9 p.m. for long-form improv games.

On Saturday, May 28, Wildcat Comedy performs at 7 p.m., Comedy Knights Live takes the stage at 8 p.m., Improv Jam starts at 9 p.m., and a farewell party will be held at 10 p.m. The audience is welcome to join the Improv Jam.

Cynthia Brown advises the Eastmont High School Drama Club, which spawned Wildcat Comedy as a splinter organization in 2014. She serves as coach and director for Wenatchee’s two professional comedy troupes, The Fledglings and Apple City Improv. She also participates in weekend workshops with Seattle’s Jet City Improv, Unexpected Productions and with visiting improv coaches and gurus. Brown produces, directs and performs for the Musical Theatre of Wenatchee.

Marcus Bingham is the WVC Theater Arts Department Artistic Director, and he teaches acting, theater production and intro to theater. He has been involved in a number of comedy troupes, including The Brain Trust, The LA Connection, Characters of the Knight, Unexpected Productions and Jet City Improv. Bingham is the director and founding member of the Comedy Knights at WVC. He has performed for the Leavenworth Summer Theater and directed stage plays for WVC.
