WVC faculty provide Halloween fun at Pybus Market

What do chemistry, insects, backcountry exploring, bones and Halloween have in common? Wenatchee Valley College faculty will show how their disciplines relate to Halloween during a series of fun demonstrations at Pybus Market on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The presentations are kid- and family-friendly, and will rotate every 10 minutes. The demonstrations include:

• What's In His Cauldron with WVC Chemistry faculty Shane Hendrickson
• It's Buggy, a look at a variety of insects and creepy, crawly things with WVC Agriculture/Natural Resources faculty Bob Gillespie
• Lost in the Woods will provide wilderness survival skills for the backcountry explorer with WVC Outdoor Recreation faculty Ariahna Jones
• Reading Bones, which includes looking at skulls for information about gender, age and ethnic background, with WVC Anthropology instructor Alex A.G. Taub
• Psych! explores the mental process of fear and why some people like to be scared with WVC Psychology faculty J'Lene George.

"This is an opportunity for people to meet the faculty at WVC, see some of the work and teaching that we do, and encourage kids to see learning in new, fun ways," said Alex Taub, who is coordinating the event. "Come to Pybus, do some shopping and meet some of the interesting faculty from WVC."
