WVC Refrigeration Club participates in Fluke Corp. student contest

The Wenatchee Valley College Refrigeration Club is participating in a student contest through the Fluke Corporation, and the community is invited to vote. Voting closes at midnight on Friday, March 18.

The Refrigeration Club’s project involves assembling and testing the Fluke tools necessary to perform building tune-ups, energy inspections and diagnostics for college buildings and facilities. The intent is to baseline the energy usage of HVAC equipment and buildings as a component of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and the Energy User Index (EUI) for the Department of Energy-Energy Star Portfolio. If the EUI performance is higher than comparable buildings in Washington state, improvements are needed. If the rating is low, the buildings are performing well.

Refrigeration Club team members include team captain Greg Johnson, Pablo Guerrero, Todd Burbank, Lance Evans and Kyle Benson. Greg Jourdan, WVC Environmental Systems and Refrigeration Technology faculty, serves as club adviser.

The Refrigeration Club has placed within the top five teams in the contest. Audience votes will account for 25 percent of the score, and the scores from the six contest judges will account for 75 percent.

The winning team will win a trip to Seattle and $3,500 in Fluke tools.

The Fluke Corporation manufactures, distributes and services electronic test tools and software.
