Ribbon cutting ceremony for new Student Recreation Center Sept. 22
The newly constructed Jack and Edna Maguire Recreation Center will have an open house and ribbon cutting Friday, Sept. 22, during the new student orientation at Wenatchee Valley College.
The ribbon cutting will follow a 3 p.m. ceremony featuring speakers WVC President Jim Richardson, WVC Foundation Director David Davin, ASWVC President Fredeline Ham and Gary Arseneault, friend of the Maguire family. After the ribbon cutting, there will be a free barbecue, games, prizes and self-guided tours.
New student orientation starts at 2 p.m. at the recreation center, and campus tours for new students will be available in English and Spanish from 2:15 to 2:50 p.m.
The center’s namesake, Edna Maguire, was recognized at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Student Recreation Center on Oct. 1, 2016. Maguire gave a $1 million gift to the WVC Foundation for campus capital improvements.
The $6.2 million center is funded by student fees. It is 17,500 square feet and includes two basketball courts, a multipurpose room, fitness equipment and weights.
