In collaboration with YWCA, Wenatchee Valley College will present a Stand Against Racism event on campus Wednesday, April 24. This event is free and open to the public.

The event will be held in the Native Garden on campus from 9:50 a.m. to 2 p.m. Opening remarks will be presented at 9:50 a.m. by Adrian Carillo, Associated Students of WVC at Omak president; Dr. Chio Flores, WVC vice president of student services; Jenny Pratt, YWCA NCW executive director and Cindy Gagne, City of Omak mayor. They will be followed by the performance of a Native honor song.

The theme of the event this year is “Immigration: No hate. No fear. Immigrant justice is racial justice.”

The schedule of events includes:

• 10 a.m.: “Preventing Death at the Border” keynote presentation by Enrique Morones, founder of Border Angels
• 11 a.m.: “Why American Indian Indigenous Studies Matter” presentation by Kestrel Smith, WVC at Omak faculty
• Noon: Lunch in the courtyard and “Let Your Light Shine” by comedian Ernie G
• 1 p.m.: Moment of silence for those who have died at the border led by Belinda Raub-Brown, ASWVC at Omak director of legislative activity
• 1:10 p.m.: “Know Your Rights” presentation by Grant Reichert, Northwest Immigrant Rights Project
• 1:30 p.m.: Closing remarks by Pratt and Livia Millard, WVC at Omak multicultural affairs coordinator.

A Stand Against Racism event will also be held on the Wenatchee campus Thursday, April 25 from 8:50 a.m. to 2 p.m.
