WVC announces interim athletic director, assistant director and head coaches

Wenatchee Valley College has named an interim athletic director, an interim assistant athletic director and an interim head men’s soccer coach. 

Matthew Vargas was named Interim Athletic Director after the departure of previous athletic director Lance LaVetter. Vargas became head men's basketball coach at WVC in August 2022. Previously he has served as head coach at Grays Harbor College from 2018-2022, leading the basketball team to the NWAC Basketball Championship Tournament in 2020, while producing multiple all-region student-athletes. In 2011, Vargas started an NJCAA collegiate athletic program on the Tohono O’odham Nation in Southern Arizona. Vargas served as director of athletics and head men's basketball coach at Tohono O'odham Community College from 2011-2017.

WVC men’s head baseball coach Aaron Vaughn was named Interim Assistant Athletic Director. Vaughn has coached at WVC for two years and previously served as assistant manager of the WVC Student Recreation Center. He was an assistant coach at Big Bend Community College and played collegiate baseball at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, and minor league baseball with the Houston Astros.

Lenin Guzman was named Interim Head Coach of the men’s soccer program. He graduated from Wenatchee Valley College in 2018 with an associate degree and recently finished his overseas soccer career in Spain.
