Berard promotes Latin all over country

 

Dr. Stephen Berard, world languages faculty member at Wenatchee Valley College, gave talks and held spoken-Latin workshops and lunches in Minnesota Oct. 30-Nov. 2, 2008. His stops included Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and the annual meeting of the Classical Association of Minnesota.

Last June, he made a presentation about the “Perennial Latin” movement at the annual meeting of the American Classical League at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

Berard has been involved in the recent “perennial Latin” or “living Latin” movement since 1998. From 2000-2007, he served as moderator at the Conventiculum Latinum, the largest of all spoken-Latin seminars founded by Professor Terence Tunberg at the University of Kentucky at Lexington. Since 2003, Berard has been running a nine-day, activity-based, spoken-Latin seminar in Washington state in late June and early July.

Berard has published many works in Latin and is currently writing a novel-length “Menippean fable” as well as a textbook designed to aid classroom conversation in Latin.
