The annual Wenatchee Valley College Fountain Fishing Derby will feature fly-casting demonstrations and competitions along with the opportunity to catch a five-pound "lunker." The fishing derby takes place Friday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Wenatchee campus and is open to the public.

Hundreds of three-pound triploid rainbow trout will fill the campus fountain, along with a few five-pound "lunkers" for some extra fun. WVC student leaders will be available to clean and grill fish on location.

The cost is $5 for a rod and the first fish, $1 for each additional fish, with a limit of three fish per angler. WVC students and their families fish free.

Fly casting demonstrations, instructions and competition will also be offered, along with several prizes and giveaways provided by local sponsors.

The fishing derby will be followed by an evening concert featuring Polecat, a popular Northwest bluegrass band.
