Fountain Fun
Two events around and in the Wenatchee Valley College fountain will provide some end-of-year
entertainment for WVC students, faculty, staff and the community.
The WVC student senate will sponsor the annual fountain fishing derby on Thursday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $5 for a rod rental and the first fish; $1 for each additional fish. WVC students with student ID fish for free.
The WVC hydraulics class, also known as Twisted Metal Mayhem, will have a water vessel competition from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at the fountain. Two-person teams from the class are designing and building pneumatic-powered water vessels that should be capable of crossing the fountain. The vessels must be powered solely on a five-gallon tank of compressed air. Store-bought drive systems are not allowed. Some designs include Weed-Whacker engines, piston-driven paddle wheels, water jets and a sail.
"Clever incorporation of our stockpile of components, pneumatic valves, magnets, electrical circuitry, Yankee ingenuity, wood and metal fabrication skills are all blending together to produce what should be a most memorable competition," said Zack Jacobson, WVC Industrial Technology program coordinator.
The water vessel competition is free and open to the public.
