Wenatchee campus

Jeanette Bussell of East Wenatchee and Lindsay Hunt of Blackfoot, Idaho, were awarded the 2011 Wenatchee Valley College President’s Medals for academic achievement and leadership during graduation commencement ceremonies in June.

Bussell completed her associate degree in nursing and her associate of arts and sciences degree with a 3.5 grade point average. Her career goals include working to provide quality, compassionate care for underserved populations.

While in college, Bussell served as chairperson for three major events and programs: the 2011 Wenatchee campus Red Cross blood drives, 2011 5K Run for Nurses and the Student Nurses of Wenatchee Habitat for Humanity service projects. She also volunteered in the community for several 4-H activities; Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, and served as activities leader at Hearthstone Cottage Retirement and Assisted Living center.

Hunt completed her associate of arts and sciences degree with a 3.5 grade point average and is transferring to Weber State University.

While in college, Hunt served as a residence hall adviser and Associated Students of Wenatchee Valley College (ASWVC) athletic treasurer, and was a member of the women’s basketball team. She participated in numerous civic activities including volunteering at the Humane Society, elementary schools and the Special Olympics program.

Outstanding Graduate awards, selected by faculty and based on students' attitude, leadership and personal development, were awarded to Christopher Bertomeu of East Wenatchee, associate of technical science degree in criminal justice and corrections certificate; Leah Bosma of Zillah, associate of technical science degree in sustainable agriculture and resource systems, tree fruit production; Edward Callahan Jr. of Wenatchee, associate degree in nursing and associate of arts and sciences degree; Crystal Canady of Carnation, associate of arts and sciences degree; Eduardo Diaz of Quincy, associate of technical science in industrial electronics; and Albino Luna of East Wenatchee, associate of technical science in automotive technology and automotive technician certificate.

 

Omak Campus

The President’s Medal at WVC at Omak was awarded to Tracy Miller of Pateros. Miller completed an associate of technical science degree in business and an associate of technical science degree in accounting with a 3.8 grade point average.

Miller served as ASWVC at Omak treasurer and Red Road Association secretary, and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She was very active in the community as a Pateros school board member, president of the Pateros Apple Pie Jamboree committee and as a junior high Knowledge Bowl coach.

Pi Dombernowsky of Winthrop and Joshua Kord Lofthus of Tonasket received Academic Achievement awards for highest grade point average; both graduated with a 4.0.

The annual Most Supportive Partner award went to Will Kafta. His wife Eimmy Hernandez-Kafta wrote the winning essay telling why her husband deserved the award. "In the past two years he has worked his tail off to make sure the bills are paid and that there’s food on the table without a single complaint!" Hernandez-Kafta said. “I want to thank him for his hard work, determination, and his unconditional love and support throughout this journey.”
