Belinda Brown-Raub attended Wenatchee Valley College on the Omak campus and graduated with an associate degree in 2021. She is currently a juvenile court services officer and guardian ad litem for the Okanogan County Juvenile & Family Services.

Why did you choose WVC?

I chose Wenatchee Valley College because of its hospitable atmosphere and curriculum.  Plus, the encouragement from two advisors that helped me realize my full potential. 

What is your fondest memory of your time at WVC?

I have many fond memories of attending Wenatchee Valley College. I served as the president of student government at Omak, creating diversity and fun-filled memories for students. Winning the President’s Medal tends to be high on my smile list. The President's Medal is awarded to honor a graduating student who has excelled in academic work and has been actively involved in student leadership. Each year at commencement, the President’s Medal is awarded to two exemplary graduates: one from the Wenatchee campus and one from the Omak campus. Characteristics of past recipients have included academic excellence, high self-motivation, resiliency and being inspirational.

What are you doing now?

I am currently working part-time doing outreach for Wenatchee Valley College at Omak and full-time for the Okanogan County Juvenile & Family Services. I am also a member of the Wenatchee Valley College at Omak Foundation Board.  I will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in social work from Central Washington University June 2023 and plan on continuing at Central Washington University to obtain my master’s in social work. 

How did WVC prepare you for the future?

WVC prepared me for the future by teaching me to stand up for what I believe in and showing me that having strong leadership skills and compassion will help me go far in life and my career.

Any advice for current WVC students?
My advice for current students is to stay focused on one goal at a time.  Putting too much on your plate can be overwhelming.  Always contact your adviser if you have questions or concerns, counselors are ready to help and want you to succeed.  I encourage students to join a club. You will find a great support system and gain friends. Friends create smiles and laughter, and laughter is an excellent form of release that helps with your studies.
