Standards of Conduct

Wenatchee Valley College intends to provide a drug-free work environment. Each employee is expected to report to work in an appropriate mental and physical condition to perform his/her assigned duties. Students are expected to follow the student code of conduct policy. Therefore, the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession or use of alcohol, legend drugs,1 narcotic drugs or controlled substances including marijuana,2 on college property or during college-sponsored events, whether on or off campus except when use or possession of a legend drug, narcotic drug or controlled substance other than marijuana is specifically prescribed by an appropriately licensed health care provider, is prohibited.

Employees

Violation of the standards listed above or the WVC Alcohol & Drug Policy by employees will result in disciplinary action being taken in accordance with Washington Administrative Code (WAC) rules, bargaining unit agreements, tenure laws or other policies  and procedures of the college. Violation will be reason for discipline, up to and including termination of employment and referral for prosecution, or participation in evaluation treatment for a substance use disorder.

Wenatchee Valley College recognizes drug use and/or dependency to be a health, safety and security problem. Employees needing assistance with problems related to drug or alcohol abuse are encouraged to use the our counseling staff for immediate help and referral and/or employee medical insurance plans as appropriate. Conscientious efforts to seek such help will not jeopardize employment.

Employees must, as a condition of working on any Wenatchee Valley College contract or grant, abide by the terms of this statement; and notify the employee’s supervisor not later than five days after any conviction for a criminal drug statute violation that occurred in the workplace.

Students

Violation of the standards listed above or the WVC Alcohol & Drug Policy or Code of Student Conduct Procedure by students will result in disciplinary action being taken in accordance with the WVC Student Discipline Policy and Procedure. Violation will be reason for discipline, up to and including expulsion from the college and referral for prosecution.
