FAFSA Simplification

2024-2025 Better FAFSA, Better Future!

Attention all students seeking financial aid!

The U.S. Department of Education is working on a new and improved FAFSA application that will be available for the 2024-2025 school year. The application is expected to be released by December 31, 2023, and will come with some exciting changes aimed at making the application process even more efficient and user-friendly. Here are some of the expected changes:

  • Federal tax information will be transferred directly from the IRS into the form.

  • Student and any contributor will each have their own StudentAid.gov account (FSAID).

  • Contributors without a social security number can now create an FSAID

  • Students can now send the application to up to 20 schools.

  • Student Aid Index (SAI) will be replacing the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).

  • Students who are considered independent due to risk of homelessness or other qualifying circumstances no longer need to verify their dependency status each year unless their situation changes.

  • Eligibility for Federal Pell Grants is expanding. Incarcerated students in federal and state correctional facilities may be eligible.

  • The aid application will have fewer questions, making it easier for students to complete.
